Pigeons…sigh.
Pigeons! Every now and then I think of another countermeasure that…doesn’t last long…put wire mesh around, certainly stopped anything that size and bigger getting in..so Lorikeets had a battle, and young Megsie did, too. It was an eyesore 🙁 so we had to pull the mesh off and try something else. Fascinating stuff..two local lorikeets, once they were in there, liked it all to themselves. Pigeons would only last a few seconds, before they’d scarper, and there’d be a lorikeet with A Very Satisfied Look, and a grey feather drifting away from its beak. Great to watch! Wish they’d stay there all day, or maybe just magically appear whenever a pigeon looked sideways at the birdfeeder..sigh!
Local pigeon, ( not the troublesome type..) keeping a wary eye on one of the rabble rousers..
I’m getting betterer with a decent stick, when they sit in the gumtrees over the back fence. They sit and wait for me to go back inside. They’re relatively safe on the roof..:( on account of..a stick tends to stay up there, or, even worse, do a sail past and land in the street. Um!. But with a suitable length of rope attached, that safe haven has all but disappeared. Asking Mr Google is problematic..there’re all sorts of weirdos out there, but they’ve got a few good ideas between them. A drone would be a very satisfying thing to get hold of, as long as it didn’t get hung up in one of the gumtrees…
We had some excitement earlier on, the pagola that provides the hanging spot for the bird feeder developed a sizeable kink..its only flimsy after all, so when two hefty owls landed on it, something had to give.
Solution..some poly pipe, a few cable ties, and a judicious unbending sorted that out.
Before we leave the pigeons..had this visitor today
…and he/she is MOST welcome! Unless a Megsie or those two Lorikeets want to visit… One of the young butcher birds has taken a dislike to said pigeons..might be actually worth all the mince meat he/she ends up with. Again, very satisfying to see this young fellah up the klacker of a pigeon or two, both receding in the distance..
So, how are we all handling this isolation bit? Bit of an ask, eh. Important though. Our premier is letting some strings go looser shortly…and every aussie state has different rules. Makes it awkward. Soup kitchen sees something about Victoria…but thats Not Queensland. Oh but…and NSW isn’t Queensland either. Not all that far away either, as the crow flies. Jigsaws are the go, along with puzzles and suchlike. The local Courier Mail has a great puzzle page…keeps a guy well and truly occupied..
