Around the corner..well, one or three corners actually, we have a rather industrious native turkey..to give it its local name. Industrious, on account of ..they make a pile of ..rubbish, consisting of a whole heap of available stuff from off the ground. Leaf litter, small twigs and branches about sums it up. This one apparantly has been around forever, and its only been in the last few weeks that he started his annual tidy up. It does look as though his tidy up is directed at the side of the road and down the bank doesnt it? Well, it does. And where he puts all this debris? Why, on the nature strip and road, of course. The aim is to make a heap, and have it at a luverly temperature, so the hen turkey can lay its eggs there-in, and neither of them have to sit on the blasted things. By energetic removal and/or putting back on, these two control the temperaturs of the whole shebang.
The locals don’t mind, and its of no account, unless you strike a car going around the ..ever encroaching pile on the road, and it comes on your side of the road. Sigh. So, you have to keep an eye out when in this particular neck of the woods at this particular time of year. The house over the road from all this frenetic activity seems to be where the turkey is aiming to make his heap. The council, of course, have decided that this state of affairs cannot be allowed to continue, and deem it to be the responsibility of a couple of its workers, who are detailed off to remove aforesaid rubbish from the road and footpath. So, the whole process starts again. Does beg the question though..what would happen if the ..guy across the road were to provide a huuuge pile in his backyard. Would that suffice? Might be difficult to park there..the insurance companies would look askance I suppose, and we would all be deprived of hours of fun, being spectators to all the shenanigans. I tried to get close enough to grab photos..but the little sod spotted the ..um..bright orange teeshirt, and came running over to get fed. He detoured into the back of the favourite house, which had thoughtfully provided lots of goodies/sustainance, to keep a hard working native chooken at his very best/peak of performance wise.
