The father..had this idea that all animals on the farm should Pull Their Weight..Contribute to their upkeep, that sort of thing. So, in the spirit of this, he decided that the wild cow..appropriately named as you will see, had been having it far too easily for far too long…in other words, not pulling her weight. trouble was, about the only way that blessed cow could pull her weight was if she was dead..then it’d be really tough eating at that…next option..get some milk out of her. Easier said than done…Getting her into a yard was the first hurdle..but we penned the milking cow up too. Step one.
step two..attach said ..scrawny kicky bitey charge type critter to the side of the yard, whereby the unlucky guy allotted the task of extracting milk was in..not a lot of danger. Never no danger, it even managed to try and fall on Dad at one stage..so, no horns..they were easy, rope around. No horns..so rope around the next best..neck. Then another rope around a hind foot and tied back..nope, another rope around the other foot and that tied back too. Momentarily stymied wild cow…but not for long. Long enough to get half a dozen squirts of..it should have been milk, but..nah..wrong colour, had lumps in it..calf hadn’t happened for too long ago. Dad stood back, scratched the noggin..you had to get mastitis medicine into each teat..mammoth undertaking..each day this routine. Took ages..besides, there was no way the wild cow would be fooled into going into that yard again..especially with Dad in attendance. All over?..yasss, but we still had to get it untied..sigh! Last seen, the wild cow was heading off to the scrub, with the remnants of a rope still attached to a foot..
