Square Dance #6
The idea of dancing was..well, ok to be able to remember and do the steps..but it was..be light on your feet..don’t put a lot of weight onto your partner..Older lot didn’t appreciate all that much having their arms pulled from their sockets..
But when you are young and..er..sillier,..I didn’t mind! Neither did some of the others..one girl from..up northern tassie anyway..strapping lass as I recall..would catch some of the younger lot napping..their eyes would blink, you might get a stumble, and they’d think..oh right, its ..such and such..and put some weight back in.
So here we are in Hobart..or maybe down the peninsular… Young lady and I are an item..but she would always put a bit of weight into it..and some of them grizzled. All came to a head one afternoon..her Dad was in the set, and the movement was..roll away with a half sashay…soo grab fingertips of girl on left side, tug a tad..she rolled around from your left to your right, you grabbed her other hand, and she settled by your side. If it was the girl, thats what you had to do..only this time I forgot didn’t I. So, touch hands..and she’d twirl and stop. This time, we kept on twirling didn’t we..straight into the other set..we all stared in amazement..the other lot were busy getting out of her way, and she was muttering as she scrambled back, face all lit up..all did not bode well! The dad gave me a glower..not for the last time either! She was much better after that…
