Foxtel
Now, in Beacon, we had Foxtel. And, to tell the truth, it consumed my time like nothing else. Endless episodes of sci-fi, several or more series going on at the same time. It did help that we had an EQ box..I think it was..whereby the box accessed foxtel, and recorded whatever you told it to record. Mostly, on account of if we lost power, then during the time that we had no power, the darn thing wouldn’t record Buffy, or Angel, or even the Dark Angel. Sigh. Glass House was a favourite as well, as were different ABC programs. (Clarke and Dawes on the end of one of therm..you had to fast forward to see them at the end..) Then all you had to do was watch them at a more convenient time hey. Hours a day there were. Fast forward to the current day. Seeing as how Television was allconsuming then, the Billisaurus decided to go easy on tv here in Queensland. So much so, that he just didn’t watch tv AT ALL. In this day and age, that has to be rather..I dunno, strange, weird, odd maybe. I keep abreast of current news and affairs via the mobile phone, hooked up to the internet via wi-fi. Then I inherited a blue Ippy, and it does go nicely. Oh, for the uninitiated, thats an ipad mini with a blue cover. Hooked up to wi-fi of course.
Now, whats this to do with foxtel I hear you ask? Funny you should say that.
one word..well, maybe three words.
GAME OF THRONES
All the death and destruction is a bit much for my usuallygoodself, but I am partial to a yippie here and there, or even the bestest christmas movie ever made. Thats Die Hard..for you uninformed lot out there.
Now, the other household members got themselves well and truly hooked on ..game of thrones. Sayings abound, like..winter is coming, John Snow. You know nothing, john Snow..that sort of thing.
and, of course, we or rather they..sat through series 6 in a very short time, and are waiting with bated breathe for..ta da series 7.
Which comes out july 17 I think it is..via..u guessed it..Foxtel. Netflix doesnt enter into it at all. Sigh, on account of we do have access….but not the Fox.
Choices..set top unit, dish on the roof, cables every which way, and holes in the wall for critters to find, OR, we live stream it. $15 a month it appears to be, and cancel at any time. Sounds too good to be true. U know what they say, though, if it sounds too good to be true, then it probably isn’t. At the very least, a catch or three.
Our broadband connection handles live stream quite well, yours truly achieved it on his all singing all dancing ‘Puter, with numerous gigabytes of ram and a nice CPU thankyouverymuch. Its out of the way though to the tv room. The other computers have buggerall Ram, which appears to be rather essential for live streaming. His older ‘Puter handles a USB drive loaded up with a movie quite well, but via the net, uh uh. This says that we tote the ..latest all singing all dancing…etc, to the living room, and connect it UP. Should work quite well, but for a teensy worry. What if the rest of Aussie do the same? I rather think that the internet would slow to a crawl. Dontcha reckon?
