So, that first square dance. Stumble here and there..and she was right, the callers missus..similar movements. So, it wasn’t long before I was having a great time. 8 people in a set, 4 of each type..er, male and female..facing in to the middle with a partner. All sorts of movements called out..heads square through4..maybe more, maybe less, sides the same..swing your corner…weave the ring. Etc. So, I was getting on well..I thought so anyway after a few nights. Then, we had a learners class happening…months later. And..Bill, we need some angels to help out. They’re experienced dancers, who can show the new lot what to do etc. Angels, on account of they’re helping teach complete..well, I’ll say novices! Okay. We get taught allemand your corner..(touch left palms, turn through, face partner), swing! So, here I am facing girl who didn’t know a lot. And , suddenly, neither did I! Didn’t have a clue..and I realised that I was so used to the partner or whoever, telegraphing what I was supposed to do, that I hadn’t learnt the actual movement! Yep yep yep..so I went to learners for real after that. Had to listen to the call, and understand what it was I had to do..
