That tune…
Of all things, a Macdonalds ad made me sit up and take notice.
Yeah right! The two or so seconds of music was all it took. Wow! Thats sooo familiar. So classical., I thought..Beethoven or Bach. So we went down the track of finding out about it. There are all sorts of clever do-dads on the net. The classic angle missed the mark completely…then I’d hear That ad again. Grr! Another do-dad, this one entailing a bit of work..downloading, allowing permissions..don’t you hate doing that? Well, I do. Then, you hum the tune..or whistle, which..returned 22% recognition. Finally! Onto youtube, yes! Only recently..in the scheme of things..recorded. 1959! It became one of Warner Bros biggest hit tunes for years. Dozens of movies have That tune in one form or another. Lots of people have released that song…No wonder it was soo familiar, eh. The guy who composed the music was truly a giant in the American music industry..he was instrumental in getting specifically written music for films off the ground..(.in a film called the Bondman, 1916.. ) he wrote film scores for years after that, his last was in 1965. He wrote 300 or so film scores..
Okay, okay!
“A theme for A Summer Place”….written for the 1959 film A Summer Place
His name was Max Steiner.
(The songs lyrics were by Mack Discant…)\
This version, song included, i do like..and it has a key change..very nice.
