todays techo stuff
With the new creators update in place, (wiindows 10) the computer says..we will automatically upload updates..well, we can’t have that. What would happen during the last episode of game of thrones, if microsoft decided to ..upload an update..aaargh, thats what would happen. Lots of grrrrs as well. Not so friendly glances in my direction, if not thrown objects as well. So we follow the destructions. Now the update page says..some settings are hidden or managed by your administrator, and..we’ll ask you to download updates..except when updates are required to keep windows…etc etc. Sigh, cant win them all.
More techo type emails..this one from techgenix.com..there are a few I get from that side of the railway trax..however..
We have a smb1.0 sharing box to untick..sommat to do with a flood of nasties doing the rounds, and we dont want that hey. Just something not needed any more apparantly, and its now a vulnerability. Vbscript to turn off in internet explorer., and the idea is to start using microsoft Edge instead…and Dynamic Lock..a bluetooth thing, so your computer will lock when your phone gets too far away..
hardly a day goes by that something else isnt diksovered. This stuff does get a bit tricky, some requires fiddling with settings that are..hairy to say the least.
And, for the most part, its getting to the point where we need a separate computer to muck around with, and it doesnt matter if it gets trashed, its easy to wipe it and reload everything via a backup. so the primary stuff..nooo attachments, no emails from unknown persons…we were all caught a while ago with a nefarious email sent by a relly..only it wasnt. Swift change of passwords done all around. It was close, that one. rooly trooly careful. No browser saved passwords. A password manager, so you can have wierd looking passwords that you dont have to remember…I havent done that yet….Roboform apparantly is a good one. A warning that appears if you want to install an app thats not from the microsoft store….for you lot with windows computers.
Two stage sign-in for bank accounts..so that user name, password, and a secondary thingo..I have a code generator, or a one time pad button to press, generates the code to plug in as well. I did read that the one time pad isnt as great as it used to be either. SIGH.
And a funny..IT administrators are apparently sending out fyshing stuff in their firms..all in the name of cybersecurity! See who they catch out would be the intent. Expect some grrrs, some aarghs, unfriendly glances, if not thrown objects! Couple of other things..and I have to remember to write/type it all down, so I know what I’ve down months down the track.
OMG.
Couple posts behind. Think I’ve now caught up. * time for breathe or two:)
